Only a few kilometers from Poprad lies Kežmarok Castle – the only entirely preserved town castle in Spiš. Built in the 15th century, it breathes history and has retained its character as a defensive stronghold and noble residence.
A visit to the castle is like a journey back in time. You will walk through rooms where the nobility once lived and see exhibitions of weapons, guild tools, and historical furniture. There is also a mysterious underground and a climb up the castle tower, from which you can enjoy a view of the entire city.
The castle is part of the Museum in Kežmarok, so every visit also offers an educational dimension—you will learn more about the region's history, education, crafts, and the everyday life of the inhabitants of Spiš. Various events take place here during the season: craft fairs, knightly festivals, night tours, and music concerts.
You can easily combine a visit to Kežmarok Castle with a walk through the historic center of Kežmarok. Be sure not to miss the precious wooden Evangelical church, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
