Starý Smokovec – the oldest Tatra settlement and a significant mountain and tourist resort – is an excellent starting point for discovering the High Tatras, whether you are a hiker, a family with children, or a lover of Tatra history.
The resort offers restaurants, cafes, shops, a funicular museum, and a gallery. In winter, it also has a sleigh track from Hrebienok, which is one of the longest in Slovakia. The biggest attraction is the funicular to Hrebienok, from where popular hikes lead to the waterfalls of Studený potok, Rainer's hut, and the Téry and Zbojnícka chalets. The routes are suitable for various fitness levels – from easy walks to high-mountain hikes.
Starý Smokovec has preserved elements of its 19th-century spa character, which give it a special charm. In the surroundings, you will find historical buildings, Tatra villas, and old hotels that tell stories of past visitors.
